What do we mean by Cross Cultural Perspectives?
One of the aims of the Cambridge IGCSE Global Perspectives syllabus is to develop in students an awareness of a range of global themes and issues, viewed from personal, local, national and global perspectives, and of the connections between them. Part of this research is undertaken through cross-cultural collaboration. This means you must show evidence that you have engaged in this, within the context of the Team Project.
This could be, for example, the inclusion of email correspondence or an account of the information your group has gathered from people from other countries/cultures. It is essential that you do not just gather this information/opinions from other countries/cultures, but you use these views and opinions to help demonstrate your understanding of the issue in hand. It is also likely that the views and opinions that you receive will also be different depending on individuals particular concerns of that country or culture in relation to the context of the issue under investigation. Your work should also show empathy and understanding of these different perspectives. This means that you will need to carefully consider the information/viewpoints they have gathered and decide the best use to make of them which will show their understanding and appreciation of those perspectives. |
CROSS CULTURAL RESEARCH IS NOT SIMPLY SURVEYING THE STUDENTS IN YOUR OWN SCHOOL. THE EXAM BOARD HAS STATED THAT THIS IS NOT GOOD QUALITY CROSS CULTURAL RESEARCH.
A SURVEY MAY BE USEFUL TO ACHIEVING YOUR AIMS BUT YOU NEED TO THINK VERY CAREFULLY ABOUT WHY YOU WOULD CONDUCT A SURVEY. |
