TEAM PROJECT
DO'S
- Try to get to the root of the issue. What is causing it? Why did it start? What is stopping the situation from improving?
- Speak to people/organisations/NGOs who know more about the issue. Find out the sorts of things you can do to help, rather than you deciding without understanding the full picture.
- Look to make a positive impact on your community. Whether this be in school, where you live or in the wider region of Hong Kong.
- You need to show evidence that you have made a difference or have changed peoples perceptions of the issue for the better.
- You can raise money for an issue - But this MUST take place outside of Island School
- Do any of your parents work for a company that have people designated to work with the community or employed to look at being corporately responsible?
- If you need to visit centres/areas during school time you can, but this can ONLY take place on a Monday/Friday and all team members have to have a permission from filled and signed by Mr Burrough at least 4 days in advance.
- You can work on similar projects to last year but try and have a project that leads from something you learnt last year.
- You need to do some cross cultural research about your issue/problem. This can be done in Hong Kong but ideally will need you to look into the issue in another country. Thats means contacting and speaking with people, NOT just searching the internet.
DON'TS
- Simply create a leaflet/poster/website - their is no way of quantifying whether you have had any sort of impact by doing this. However if you have been or if this type of product supports your objective or is for a particular purpose to help you achieve your objective.
- Make a video to inform people about an issue. -Unless you are sanctioned to make a video for an organisation that helps spread awareness or supports your projects objective
POINTERS
- If you are going to inform people about an issue consider your audience - who are the right people to ‘inform’?
- What date are you going to choose? A launch date has more effect.
- IF you inform - find a way to help that charity/problem as well in some way e.g do a beach cleanup, volunteer at a charity for the day etc. Take photo’s and use these to help publicize.
- What else happens at Island School that you might be able to use? House Charities? WANBO? ISSJ? You can work with these groups to make you life easier.
- Can you link up with another team to help make your event even better? You can join together, as long as each team has a clear area of what they are responsible for.
- If you run an event in school you MUST let the events committee aware, they meet once per month.
