Within your Team project you will work within a role and have an opportunity to be a leader. The \leadership roles are :
TEAM LEADER, LEAD RESEARCHER, LEAD CREATIVE AND LEAD COMMUNICATIONS
Some roles can be taken by more than one person if you have 5 in your team. There will be opportunities for you to lead different phases of the project and of course to collaborate on different aspects of the project.
The purpose of this session is for you to identify and investigate some of the qualities of a good leader. You will reflect on your own leadership qualities and consider ways that you will work your team in Explorations. There are numerous ways in which you will be able to demonstrate in your project within your project role.

Task: What is leadership?
In your small groups, brainstorm around the key terms 'leader' and 'leadership'.
One group will complete this task on the board - compare your brainstorm with the one done on the board? What similarities/common words/themes do you see?

Task: What makes a good leader?
1. You will be divided into 6 groups.
2. Each group gets one aspect (a wedge) of the leadership wheel - communication, respect, vision, teamwork, ethics & critical thinking. 3. On the wedge, you should write down ways that leaders demonstrate that quality. 4. When finished, bring your wedge of the wheel back and stick it together to form a wheel on the board. 5. As a class, discuss your leadership wheel. Are there any other qualities that should be added to the wheel? 1 minute team discussion - Good leaders Try to come up with as many examples of leaders that reflect the leadership wheel - your teacher or class scribe will add these to your class leadership wheel. |
Task: Role models - good leaders
1. Each group will randomly choose a leader.
2. Working in your teams, you have 15 minutes to prepare a creative presentation on that leader (role play, press conference, address to the UN, etc).
3. In your presentation, you must identify or demonstrate the key qualities discussed in the previous activities.
